Young Cottonwood, Zion National Park

Young Cottonwood, Zion National Park

As the Virgin River makes its way through Utah's Zion National Park, it has carved a deep slot canyon known as the Zion Narrows. Due to the depth of the canyon and frequent floods, plant life at the bottom of the canyon is sparse. This young cottonwood, however, managed to take root in the canyon bottom. When I came across it, the tree's changing leaves were nicely lit by a shaft of light reaching the canyon's bottom.
